Maker Guidelines

Thank you for considering contributing to Loops of Kindness. Here’s a list of projects we currently accept and material requirements.

Material Requirements

We kindly request that you do not use safety eyes, buttons, or any possible choking hazard in your crochet donations of stuffed animals or children’s items. Buttons and other tightly secured additions are accepted for items intended for adults. Special baby-friendly yarn listed in this post is needed for “Octopus for Preemies” donations. No profanity or any inappropriate patterns will be accepted.

Projects and Patterns

Here’s a list of items we currently accept along with hours given for each item. If you took a different amount of hours for each item, let us know when you submit your volunteer hour log and we’ll verify them by hand.

Octopus for Preemies - 4 hrs

These cute little octopi are accepted in many preemie wards due to their apparent preemie baby well-being benefits. I recommend using our pattern below, but you can use any similar pattern online. Use a yarn in the hypoallergenic yarn list or in our pattern.

Adult/Child/Baby Hats - 2/1.5/1 hrs

Donating crocheted adult, child, or baby hats can provide warmth and comfort to those in need. Your generous donation can make a significant difference in someone’s life, especially during cold weather. Your donation will be greatly appreciated and will bring a smile to those who receive these handcrafted hats. Here are some links to get you started:

Baby Blankets - 8 hrs

Baby blankets are definitely the biggest project we accept, but they’re a wonderful way of expressing creativity due to the large canvas they provide. Baby blankets must be 40 in. (100 cm) wide by 60 in. (150 cm) long, a size known as “crib size.”

Baby Blanket Squares - 30 min

Instead of making a whole baby blanket by yourself, you can join the effort by making small 6 in. (15 cm) by 8 in. (20 cm) sections in a concept inspired by Warm Up America’s blanket sections. Once you donate these, they’ll be stitched together into a full baby blanket in a wonderful community effort.

Stuffed Animals/Amigurumi

We accept donations of stuffed animals/amigurumis. Feel free to use your creativity with these, but please keep the following under consideration:

  • Don’t use safety eyes or other attachments that pose a choking hazard if they come loose. Instead, you can embroider eyes like in the teddy bears I made in the following image.
